The Yale Working Women’s Network is partnering with the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF) and Young Women Rising to host a reception honoring young women leaders in Connecticut. Inspired to move past the notion that young people are our future leaders, this event celebrate Connecticut’s young women leaders who are making a difference in the lives of women and girls here and now. Awardees are all under age 40 and have demonstrated exemplary leadership and a commitment to their community.

We are pleased to announce that a Yale staff member has been selected as one of six awardees for the evening:

Dena Simmons, Ed.D., is an activist, educator, and student of life from the Bronx, NY, who later moved to Waterbury, CT. She serves as the Director of Education at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. She writes and speaks nationally about social justice and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy as well as creating emotionally intelligent and safe classrooms within the context of equity. Dena has been profiled in Huffington Post, Education Week, the AOL/PBS project, MAKERS: Women Who Make America, and a Beacon Press Book, Do It Anyway: The New Generation of Activists.

The reception will feature drinks and appetizers and honor the achievements of six impressive awardees from across Connecticut. Proceeds from the ticket sales will support CWEALF and their work to women’s rights and opportunities. We hope to see some WWN members there!
