Event Recap - Women in Innovation Forum

April 21, 2017

This year’s Women in Innovation Forum aimed to inspire women to conquer new territories–and that’s exactly what it did. A day full of captivating speakers and innovative thinkers from healthcare, technology, space exploration, and activism among others, discussed the importance of coding for women to better engage with the world, the benefits of diversity in a working environment, the significance of adding to a company’s culture as opposed to fitting in, building on and fusing previous ideas to spark innovation, and being persistent when it comes to professional interests. About fifty speakers (the vast majority being women) sat down with the audience to discuss their present careers, what it took to get them there, and words of empowerment and self-confidence for all women. The speakers stemmed from all areas of work: Leah Gilliam from Girls Who Code, Rachel Weiss from L’Oreal, Amanda Hesser from Food 52, Sadia Halim from BNP Paribas, and Ayah Bdeir from Little Bits, to name a few.

WWN was featured as a sponsor on the forum’s website and was offered a table with its logo on it. Kate Hathaway, Chair of Yale Women in Technology, says she was particularly inspired by TeLisa Daughtry, founder of FLYTechnista whose mission is to educate and advance women and girls in technology and STEAM: “Telisa and the other panelists reminded us of the long history of women in Computer Science and told us that ‘we can be erased from digital history if we are not a part of it’. A great rallying cry for future generation of women in tech!” Ultimately, this was a lively day full of enthusiastic and hardworking women–of women who have conquered new territories and of women who will.
