What is the WWN Recognition Award?

The WWN Recognition Award is an annual award that recognizes one woman currently employed at Yale who has been an exemplary member of her community, either at Yale or beyond.

The individual receiving this honor may be selected for a wide range of achievements but overall will have distinguished herself through a commitment to changing the world through her personal efforts. For example, an awardee could have had an impact on a project or team by demonstrating a positive attitude, gone beyond the call of duty to get the job done, or demonstrated a love for learning new skills. Overall, the award recipient should demonstrate the ability to be a powerful role model working towards the well-being of all.


Who can be nominated for the WWN Recognition Award?

The nomination process is open (November 1 - December 16, 2016) to women Yale employees under the following job categories: Service and Maintenance (S&M), Clerical and Technical (C&T), and Managerial and Professional (M&P). Consultants, temporary/casual employees, and members of the Recognition Award Committee cannot be nominated.


Who can nominate?

Nominations can be received from all University employees in the following job categories: Service and Maintenance (S&M), Clerical and Technical (C&T), and Managerial and Professional (M&P). Nominations must include a paragraph about why the person nominated made a difference during the period of time cited. Self-nominations are not allowed.


Is there a selection criteria to guide the nominators?

Yes, here is the suggested but not required selection criteria to guide nominators:

- A Trailblazer: a woman who has chartered a new career path

- A Quiet Heroine: a woman who has mentored and/or nurtured others at Yale or beyond

- A Visionary: a woman who has been a champion for change

- A Community Catalyst: a woman who leads in a volunteer capacity

- A Work Life Champion: a woman who takes unusual measures to balance work and family


What does the selection process entail?

The WWN Recognition Award Committee will review all nomination forms and select the top one. A second review will be conducted by the WWN Recognition Program Advisory Team.


Is the Recognition Award for an individual or a team of women?

This recognition award is for individuals only and only one woman will be awarded in 2016.


What timeframe should the nominee’s achievements have been accomplished in?

The nominee’s achievements must have been accomplished within the past year.


What is the prize for the WWN Recognition Award recipient?

The award recipient will receive a WWN Recognition Award plaque during a ceremony on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 @12-1:30 PM. The news will be shared via the WWN newsletter, website and social media.
