Event Recap - The Intersectional Internet: Toward an ethic of social justice on the web

May 3, 2016

On April 11, Safiya Umoja Noble, Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA, came to Yale, met with members of WWN, the Yale Library’s Standing Committee on Professional Awareness (SCOPA) and Women in IT at Yale (WIT) for a Q&A session, met with Yale College students, and gave a lecture about her research that was open to the Yale community. Prof. Noble’s research focuses on the negative impact of commonplace digital technology on our society, and particularly on women and minorities. She examined how commercial web browsers are not as benevolent as they seem and reflect a complex set of positions on race and gender. This event was co-sponsored by WWN, the Yale Library’s Standing Committee on Professional Awareness (SCOPA) and Women in IT at Yale (WIT).
