The WWN workshop Acting like a woman: Performing gender as a female staff member at Yale, held on Wednesday, April 17th, was a rousing success. Nancy Niemi engaged two dozen Yale staff members in a discussion about performing gender as a female staff member. Niemi, an expert in gender equity in higher education, led the group through shared experiences of inequity and their feelings around those experiences. As the hour-long presentation drew to a close, the participants all asked the same question, “How do we change this culture?” Niemi left workshop attendees with practical steps like finding their voice around issues of gender inequity and identifying allies to help create positive change for women at work.
