WWN Advocacy Contributes to Enhancing M&P Child-Rearing Leave Policy

February 28, 2019

In December, Janet Lindner, Vice President for Human Resources and Administration, announced that as of January 1, 2019, M&Ps on an approved child-rearing leave are eligible for paid time off for the first four weeks of the leave. This enhancement (from 2 weeks of paid time off previously to 4 weeks) will benefit all parents who have recently given birth or adopted a child.

Thank you to all the WWN members who participated in the March 2017 parental leave survey! We shared the results of the survey and our recommendations with Janet and the benefits team. One of the most common recommendations was increasing paid parental leave time, and we are excited to see this recommendation be implemented.

We have also been working with the leave administration staff to share feedback from the survey and ongoing comments to make the leave process smoother and ensure information is clear and accessible. Our advocacy work in this area continues, as we hope to work with union leadership to advocate for enhancements for S&M and C&T staff, to continue improving communication, and to explore other challenges new parents at Yale face. If you’d like to get involved, fill out the form here.
