Latin American Policy Leader Series: Visit of Regional Director of UN Women for Latin America & Caribbean: “Diversity, Equality, and Gender”

The Yale MacMillan Center Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies, Fox International Fellowship Program, and Program on Peace and Development are delighted to announce the 2022 Latin American Policy Leader Series.
From January to May 2022, the Yale community will have the opportunity to hear from and discuss with high-level Latin American experts and policymakers about how we can work together towards a more equal and just world.

The Role of Arts Organizations in Anchoring Community Economic Development

The Yale School of Management and the David Geffen School of Drama are delighted to co-host renowned arts administrator Karen Brooks Hopkins, President Emerita of the Brooklyn Academy of Music for a talk on Wednesday, April 13th from 4:00—5:30 pm in the Beinecke Room (#2300), Evans Hall, 165 Whitney Avenue.
Karen’s talk will focus on the role of arts organizations in anchoring economic development. Karen will also draw from her recently published book, “BAM…and Then it Hit Me.” Light refreshments will be served.

Help Your Child Become a Great Sleeper in 5 Easy Steps

Are you the parent of a child ages 3-10 who is not yet a good sleeper? Parents of babies and toddlers are given lots of advice to help them improve their child’s sleep, but parents of older children are often not sure what to do if their kids still don’t sleep well. Parents (with all of the right intentions, of course!) often do two things at bedtime that may make their children worse sleepers: allowing too many extra requests after the bedtime routine is over, and staying with a child until he or she falls completely asleep.

Sleep for Performance

Increasing work/school/family life obligations and a culture of constant connection to mobile devices has led many Americans to a persistent state of sleep deprivation. Chronic sleep deprivation not only reduces productivity, it can impair mood, learning, memory, and physical performance. Medical disorders associated with lack of sleep or sleep disorders include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Attendees will leave with a basic understanding of 1) the science of sleep, 2) the effects of sleep on performance and health, and 3) best practices for optimal sleep.
